Prayers for Healing

Following the He is Able post, I really felt like we should also pray together for healing. Prayer is conversation with God, so there is no wring way to do it. I bet, once again, if you are here, then you have already prayed for healing and maybe it has not come. Or you have prayed for a loved one who continues to suffer. Our Lord is not only mighty and able, He is also compassionate and moved by our pain. He feels your pain. Jesus took our pain and suffering and sickness upon Himself to reconcile us to the Father. Rest in the knowledge that He loves you so much, Jesus suffers with us, this man of sorrows. Isaiah 53:3-5 describes His sorrow and helps us understand better that He does understand our suffering and sickness,

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

His punishment has brought us peace, claim His peace for yourself as you also yearn for His touch and claim His healing.

A prayer, Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

A prayer for wholeness

Lord, as we seek your healing, full and complete, we beseech you to reveal the fullness of your love toward us and extend your powerful arm to bind what needs binding to open when needs opening and to restore what needs restoration. Touch us deeply that we may fulfill your purpose for us, as set out before our births. Take away our sickness, spare us from the pit. For we praise you and give you all honor and glory in our lives. In Christ’s goodness, Amen.

A prayer for fertility, from 1 Samuel 1 (A couple’s prayer)

Lord of all creation, we worship you. We praise you in the giving and in the taking. We praise you in the torment of desiring a child and having none. You are the God who hears, ‘samuel’, as Hannah called her own much-desired child. You heard Hannah’s plea and we know that you hear our plea as well for a child. We recognize a child as your gift to us, one entrusted to be raised in your name and to serve you through his or her life. It will be our joy to raise your child, Abba. We worship you, your goodness and grace overwhelm us daily. May your gift of a child bless us in Jesus’s name.

A prayer against illness based on James 5:13-16

[Elders] Lord we come before you with our brother/sister, seeking your faithful healing. As elders, we anoint your child and lift them up for healing from ____insert sickness____. [Elder anoints with oil]

Sick person now prays forgiveness] Lord, I know that I have sinned against you in thought, word and deed. Specifically, I ask forgiveness for _______. Cleanse me from my sins and find me righteous in your eyes. I choose to follow you all of my days and renounce my sinful past, set me right and send your Spirit to guide my every step.

[Elders] Father God we beseech you on behalf of __name__ for full and complete healing of _____insert sickness____. As your righteous child, full of faith and cleansed of sin, grant our prayer. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.

A prayer for health from 3 John 1:2

Lord, I lift up my dear friend, I pray that [name] may enjoy good health and that all may go well with her/him, even as he/she grows stronger in faith each day. Grow his/her trust in you that all doubt may fall aside as full health is restored. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

An appeal to Yahweh-rapha, Exodus 15:26

Lord, I cry out to you, the great I AM, the great Yahweh-rapha: God the Healer. You take care of me, minister to me, carry me in my suffering. Your grace and love are enough. But still I long for full healing that only bring, Yahweh-rapha. Bestow upon me your touch and fulfill the healing of faith as your Son so often did in the New Testament. Refresh me, give me peace, re-knit my bones and organs together as only the God of creation can. You, Lord Healer, are my God and I claim all that you give your children. Heal me in the mighty name of your Son, who took my sin and sickness upon Him and paid the price for it all. Yahweh-rapha, hear my prayer. Amen. (See full post on this Name of God, Yahweh-rapha)

Mighty stronghold

Lord you are my strong tower, the one who is my defense and my refuge in times of strife. All things are put in subjection to you. As my defense and defender, send your Spirit in all power to touch me, giving health and salvation to my body. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

I pray that you find comfort and peace in seeking Him during this time of strife. I would like to pray with you in this, for where two or more are gathered, there He is (Matt 18:20). So please comment below or write so together we will plead for your healing.
