Run our own Race

I hope I am not repeating myself today. I know I have said that there are priorities, there are distractions from that and today I want to talk about the running ‘with perseverance the race marked out for us’ Hebrews 12:1. The whole point behind the focus on God, on the Son Jesus, is that we have been assigned a course. He assigned us a course that we must run.

Others have their say

We grow up with family telling us what our priorities are, then it is the school that dictates our priorities, then the boss wherever we work. Others are always trying, and often succeeding, in telling us what the current priority is and when things must be done. This external pressure must be placed in line where it belongs.

Take the bull by its horns

We must recognize the priorities that others set before us and check if that aligns with the priorities that God has given each of us. There are things that are our individual priority, the race set before the runner. Each individual runner has a different track and a different starting point, refreshment stand, hills to climb and streams to cross. The finish line is the same for all. The crown awaits us all.

Pray Your Race

I have friends in Rome, Italy who run a bar (that would be a café). When they became believers, they were working in a bar that was open seven days a week. When they wanted to attend church, it was near impossible. They prayed for a change so they could prioritize worshiping God. And they were provided an opportunity to manage a bar that was closed on Sunday. Now that they have children who also need employment, they have prayed and given up the management of that bar to go where they have possibilities to meet these differing needs of the family. God answered them. They were being pushed upon, given different priorities, but they prayed for things that were in line with the priorities that He had for them and He answered. Like my friends, we must recognize our own race, our own God-given priorities and then choose them above all else, in order to then place the priorities of others in their proper place.
