Work with Joy

In all of this talk of simplicity, there has really been no mention of what we are actually doing. It has rather been a discussion of our single-mindedness of God and his Kingdom. That, I suppose, is what this boils down to.

Do for God and Kingdom

Whatever it is we do, starting with our thoughts and going through our decisions, actions and words, must be done for Him. For the Glory of God. Ephesians 2:10 says it clearly for us, ‘For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.’ We are his. We were created in Jesus Christ for good works. Our works were prepared by Him for us, in order for us to live them out.

We were created for the mundane of making photocopies, the mundane of cooking and cleaning, driving and doing errands just as much as we were made to praise him, to pray for miracles, to preach the Good News, to help others, to encourage others. We were created to do these things, all good works, and he wants us to walk in them.

Work with Joy

Since we do all these things, mundane and extraordinary, for Him, how could we not live them out with joy? How could we not walk with purpose? Many of us perhaps feel that God has called us to greatness, and in fact, he has. He has called us greatness in what we do. Greatness in whatever we do. Greatness in everything we do. We work for God. As in Psalm 40:8, we can take joy in the Lord and doing His will. Our work and even our lives may not be what we expected, but the joy we receive in doing his work comes from knowing that He is good, and He is the ultimate one that we work for.

I take joy in doing your will, O God
