How to Pray with Ephesians: 5 Prayers Inspired by the Book
The book of Ephesians isn’t just theology to be studied — it’s a prayer book for the church. Written while Paul was in prison, this letter is filled with his prayers for the believers in Ephesus. Those prayers model how we can bring identity, unity, and strength before God.
Praying Scripture is powerful. It helps us focus on God’s truth rather than our feelings, anchors us in promises, and gives us words when our own run out. If you’ve ever wondered how to pray with more depth, Ephesians offers a guide.
Why Pray Scripture?
Paul’s prayers in Ephesians were written for a church surrounded by cultural pressure, spiritual opposition, and temptation. The believers lived in a wealthy port city full of idols and competing spiritual claims. They needed more than surface-level prayer — they needed to know God deeply.
When we pray Scripture, we:
Align with God’s will instead of our own guesses.
Anchor our minds in truth when emotions are unstable.
Learn to pray with boldness, not just vague requests.
5 Prayers from Ephesians
1. Pray for wisdom and revelation (Ephesians 1:17).
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to know You more deeply.
2. Pray to know God’s power (Ephesians 1:19–20).
Paul reminds us that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in us.
Prayer: God, remind me that Your resurrection power is alive in my life today.
3. Pray for inner strength (Ephesians 3:16).
Paul prays that believers would be strengthened in their “inner being.”
Prayer: Spirit, give me endurance and courage where I feel weak.
4. Pray for unity and love (Ephesians 4:3).
Unity doesn’t happen by accident. Paul calls the church to pursue peace.
Prayer: Lord, help me love others with patience and humility.
5. Pray for boldness in the gospel (Ephesians 6:19).
Even Paul asked for courage to proclaim Christ.
Prayer: God, give me boldness to share Your truth with others.
