Why Forgiveness Is for You (Not Just for Them)
When you think about forgiveness, it’s easy to focus on the other person—the one who hurt you. We wonder: Do they deserve it? Will they ever say sorry? Won’t forgiving them let them off the hook?
But here’s the surprising truth: forgiveness isn’t only about them. It’s also about you.
The Burden of Carrying Unforgiveness
Holding onto anger or bitterness can feel like protection. It feels like justice, like armor around the wound. But in reality, unforgiveness is a weight that you carry, day after day.
It doesn’t keep the offender locked up. It keeps you tied to the pain. Unforgiveness steals your peace, clouds your thoughts, and keeps joy at arm’s length.
Think about it: how many times have you replayed the hurt in your mind, reliving it like it happened yesterday? That cycle drains you. It keeps you stuck.
Why God Calls Us to Forgive
God doesn’t ask us to forgive because it’s easy, or because what happened doesn’t matter. He asks us to forgive because He knows it’s the only path to freedom.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger… Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” —Ephesians 4:31–32
This verse cuts to the heart: forgiveness releases you from the grip of bitterness. It clears space for kindness, compassion, and peace to take root.
Forgiveness and Freedom
When you choose forgiveness, you’re not excusing what happened. You’re not pretending it didn’t hurt. You’re choosing to release the debt so that your heart can finally breathe again.
That release doesn’t erase the pain overnight. Forgiveness is often a process, not a one-time moment. But with every step, God loosens the chains of resentment and opens the door to peace.
A Guided Path Toward Healing
If you’ve tried to forgive but still feel weighed down, you’re not alone. Many Christians struggle to move from the decision to forgive into actually living free.
That’s why I created Alive Again: Find Healing in Forgiveness. It’s a Bible study and course designed to walk you through the process of forgiveness with honesty, reflection, and hope.
Inside the study, you’ll discover:

Practical steps toward peace for your heart and mind
This is not about quick fixes. It’s about real transformation.
Forgiveness Is For You
When you forgive, you don’t set the other person free—you set yourself free. You step out of the prison of anger and into the light of God’s grace.
